TexasScholarslogoThe 2010 Texas Scholars program is gearing up again this year to help Brown County high school seniors pay for part of their college. Texas Scholars is an initiative of Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC). It is a community-based program through which volunteers and educators work together to motivate students to take a more purposeful approach in high school, and plan for and work toward a career of their choosing after high school.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the program with the help of sponsors and local businesses to help supply these scholarships.  The Chamber’s goal for 2010 is to raise $20,000 to offer 20 students scholarships.  Qualified Graduating Seniors from all SEVEN School Districts in Brown County will enjoy a hamburger lunch on April 15th prepared by the Chamber’s Ambassadors at the Coliseum.

Scholarships are presented to students who have completed the Recommended Graduation Plan, and student names are randomly drawn.  Each scholarship is $1,000, paid half in the fall and half in the spring.

Scholarships are funded through the generous donations of members of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.  Donors that sponsor at least one-quarter of a scholarship ($250) are listed in the event program, invited to join the students at lunch and introduced during the festivities at the Coliseum.  This year’s event is sponsored by Oncor, Brownwood Regional Medical Center, and Citizens National Bank.
