Feat Studios of Brownwood will host their very first ballet production, the “Nutcracker”, this weekend in three performances.  Feat Studios is located at 800 S. Greenleaf in Brownwood, behind the Brownwood Library and Brownwood Bulletin, just off of Carnegie next to the Bill Monroe (Austin Avenue) overpass.

The public is invited to attend the three performances which will be Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and again on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  Seating is limited; however, the stadium seating offers a great view from any location.   Tickets are still available at the door or in advance at the studio for $10 each.

The show will be performed by dancers of all ages, but mostly children who are students.  Characters are in full costumes which feature bright colors, and the stage is dressed with professional backdrops.  It is a storyline production rather than the usual recital of dance classes held each year.

Owner Amy Chou stated that this is the first time a children’s ballet has been produced in Brownwood.

“I’m very excited because this is our first show and the first of its kind here in Brownwood.  It’s our first time to perform in the auditorium and run the entire system,” said Chou.  “The show is a modified ”Nutcracker,” a smaller production of 30-35 performers, most playing two parts.”

Chou stated that the performance has something for everyone.

“Every age will enjoy the show.  The kids have worked hard, came every Saturday in addition to their regular weekday dance classes, and made such a commitment,” Chou said.  “They are having fun but also learning life lessons and maturing through performing.  Working with the different age groups together has been fun.”

Chou explained that the older children have learned to be role models for the very young dancers.  By committing to the work of these types of productions and dance classes, students learn life skills such as etiquette, self confidence, posture, commitment, goal setting and much more.  The interaction between the age groups has bonded the students with each other she said.

Chou stated that it is the goal of Feat Studios to offer more productions as the studio and dance academy grows, establishing a more well-rounded experience of the arts for the children of the Brownwood and Brown County area.
