Southside Church, sponsor of the Brownwood Reunion Celebration Parade, announces the 2011 Parade winners.
This year’s parade featured 52 entries which consisted of floats, classic cars, performers, and a marching band.
Winning entries were chosen by grand marshals Weldon Wilson and Joyce Leidig as follows:
First Place: Brownwood High School Band (pictured above)
“We gave first place to Brownwood High School Band because they looked and sounded great. They were the only band in the area that participated in the parade,” stated Leidig.
Second Place: Victory Life Academy
“The VLA Warriors’ floats were great, they took time to decorate and put more than just a sign on a trailer with their players. VLA entered two floats in the parade,” said Leidig.
Third Place: Camp Bowie Training Center Fire Team
“We appreciated the Camp Bowie Training Center Fire Team for entering the parade. They had been fighting fires all week and during their time off came to participate in the parade,” said Leidig.
Approximately 45 volunteers helped organize and work the parade which was sponsored by Southside Church.
“We were pleased at the turnout,” stated Eric Evans, organizer of the parade. “We received positive feedback from most of the entrants and are expecting it to do nothing other than grow each year.”
This was the first Reunion parade that Southside Church has ever organized; however, they have organized the Brownwood Christmas Parade for the past two years. According to Evans, although they had 45 volunteers, there is always need for more at these types of events. “
With the large crowds at the Reunion, it was a challenge to keep the parade route clear of children and through traffic even with barricades, according to Evans.
Congratulations to the winning entrants, Brownwood High School Band, Victory Life Academy and Camp Bowie Training Center Fire Team.
