NNOLogo2011.Good Samaritan Ministries was the beneficiary of a food drive which was held in conjunction with National Night Out on October 4, 2011.

GSM Director of Communications Misty Bowers reported that cans have been counted and a total of 1387 pounds of food was donated through the event.  Of that total, 928 pounds came from Brownwood neighborhoods, 338 pounds from Early neighborhoods and 121 pounds of food came from various neighborhoods within the county.

National Night Out is an annual event consisting of block parties to help heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.  During the event, city and county officials, law enforcement officers, fire departments, and EMS traveled to block parties to meet with residents.

An added component to National Night Out 2011 was a food drive.  Residents attending block parties were encouraged to bring canned goods to their neighborhood gatherings.  All food collected benefited Good Samaritan Ministries.
