A severe thunderstorm came through Brown County on Monday evening bringing lightning, strong winds, and rain for the second straight evening.
The high wind gusts caused many residents to lose tree limbs (some of significant size) along with blown over trash bins, signs, and anything not tied down.
At least one business suffered roof damage. The Clear Fork Roofing building on Stewart Street in Brownwood had part of its metal roof blown off and left metal and wood spread over a wide area. As the roof blew off, much of the debris flew across the street knocking down power lines and knocking over one natural gas meter. Repair crews were on the scene repairing the damaged utilities quickly.
Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree said that about 1800 residents were without power as a result wind and lightning of the storm. As of 6am Tuesday morning, about 200 customers still did not have power.
Atmos Energy reported that only the one meter was damaged on Stewart Street during the storm.
Today’s forecast says that showers and thundershowers are likely. High 73F. Winds N at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
*UPDATE* The Associated Press is reporting that lightning knocked out a transformer behind the Brownwood Bulletin during the storm also damaging their printing press. The Bulletin, Stephenville Empire-Tribune, and some other papers are printed on site. The Associated Press said that the publisher is working hard to find presses in other areas until theirs is repaired.
