Elizabeth Maxine Cox was born July 26, 1929 in Brownwood to Robert Hillory and Mary Elizabeth (Gaines) Cox. Maxine’s philosophy of “Live, laugh, love and wear a red hat” served her well through life. She wore many hats, having worked for the Cross Cut Post Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and GTE. She was a founding member of the Vintage Rose Red Hat Society where she served as Queen Mother until her retirement earlier this year. Maxine was also a big part in starting the HattAlines Performing Group in 2006. She loved to read and take care of her longhorns.
Maxine leaves behind to cherish her memories her children, Danny and Jean Kellar of Brownwood and Lanny Kellar of Brownwood; grandchildren Danny Lynn Kellar of Brownwood, Leanda Caperton of Brownwood, Jason Kellar of Coppell and Nicholas Kellar of Frisco, nine great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Phillips of Lovington, New Mexico and brother-in-law, George Cruthis of Cave City, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Francis Cox sisters, Betty Martin and Roberta Cruthis and brother-in-law Felton Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, November 4, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Morton and Reverend Bill Slaymaker officiating. Burial will follow at Cross Cut Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
