*9:20 PM – Brownwood Police along with the assistance of a Brown County Sheriff’s Officer responded to a suspicious call, a male and female subject fighting in a white semi-truck.  According to the report, the truck was located, a stop was made near the intersection of Crockett Drive and Morris Shephard Drive, and officers began to speak with them, finding the female to be highly intoxicated. The male stated that the pair were headed back to their hotel and that he would make sure she got there safely, the report states.  Officers did not find reason to believe at that time that the male, identified as 30-year-old Stephen Kirkwood of Arlington, was intoxicated.   A short time later, one of the officers was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Morris Sheppard and US Hwy 377 South, when he realized that the vehicle in front of him was the semi-truck that Kirkwood was driving.  According to the officer’s report, the semi-truck began to roll backward and struck the police cruiser, then proceeded forward and turned left onto Hwy 377 South.  The officer then made a stop to investigate the accident which had just occurred.  Kirkwood did not realize he had struck the police cruiser and stated he had the truck in the wrong gear when he tried to take off, causing it to roll backward; however, the officer noticed that Kirkwood’s eyes appeared “glazed over” and seemed somewhat unsteady on his feet, the report states.  Kirkwood was administered standardized field sobriety tests and determined that he was possibly intoxicated and a blood warrant was obtained.  Kirkwood was then arrested for accident – driving while intoxicated.  A sample of blood was obtained at Brownwood Regional Medical Center then Kirkwood was transported to the Brown County Jail.
