Early Police Chief David Mercer reported that Early PD was involved in a foot chase with a suspicious male in the early hours of Thursday, April 19th, which resulted in the recovery of several stolen items and a suspect identified but not caught.
Mercer stated that on Thursday at approximately 1:00am, Officer Stephanie Haile responded to a suspicious persons call in the 300 block Grandview in Early. While checking the area, Officer Haile located the suspect who then ran. Mercer explained that Officer Haile chased the suspect for several blocks through back yards and into a pasture where she eventually lost sight of him.
Officers from Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Brownwood Police Department then assisted in searching the area; however, the suspect was not located at the time, Mercer stated. The suspect’s vehicle was located and seized, according to Mercer.
Mercer said officers then began investigating several motor vehicle burglaries that occurred around Rosedale and Grandview streets. Some of the stolen items were recovered in the vehicle and a few items have been located that were thrown away by the suspect he explained. The investigation is continuing and the suspect has been identified. Warrants will be issued in the near future, according to Mercer.
Chief Mercer asks the public for their assistance in this case.
“If anyone who lives in that area finds property abandoned around their house or pasture please contact the Early Police Department so we can document it and return it to their owners,” said Mercer.

Wednesday, April 18
*5:15am-A Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy made a welfare check on a vehicle which had passed his patrol car, turned around, and as it got approximately 20 feet from the deputy’s patrol unit, flashed its lights at him and then swerved. According to the report, the deputy spoke to the driver, identified as 40-year-old Manuel Macias of Lawn, Texas, and noticed a glass object under some wires in a bag which was in clear view on the passenger seat. The report states that the suspect said he didn’t know what the object was before finally admitting that the item was in fact drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle found only a green pipe containing methamphetamine residue inside the vehicle, the report states. Macias was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
*7:19pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 2700 block of Greenway regarding the theft of a motor vehicle. According to the report, the victim stated that his 2004 Buick Rendezvous was stolen for a second time from the parking lot of his apartment and that the theft occurred between the hours of 1:20am and 7:19am. At the time of the theft, suspects were unknown; however, the officer was later advised by dispatch that the vehicle had been recovered by the Fort Worth Police and that three juveniles were being detained, according to the report. The vehicle had been stolen previously on April 7th and recovered; however three firearms had been stolen from the vehicle at that time and not recovered when the car was found later that same day in Brownwood.
*9:58pm Brownwood Police were involved in a low speed chase through the city which led to the arrest of the driver on multiple charges. A Brownwood Police officer attempted a traffic stop for a defective license plate lamp in the 100 block of W. Commerce. According to Assistant Chief James Fuller, the driver who had no driver’s license or insurance on his vehicle most likely wanted to take his car home because he knew he was going to jail. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Mark Myron Crawford, slowly led police down W. Commerce, turning on Robines Street, then onto W. Baker Street and eventually leading the officer slowly through the residential Victoria Street, according to police records.
During the chase, Crawford used signals, however did not stop at one stop sign, crossed W. Austin Avenue and then came to a stop in a driveway in the 1000 block of Victoria. As seen on police video, Crawford exited his car and was arrested without incident. The chase was very slow speed, reaching only 30mph at most, according to Fuller. Two additional officers arrived at the scene as the chase came to an end.
Fuller stated that if he had simply pulled over on W. Commerce, he would not have faced many charges. He could have been jailed only on the Driving With License Invalid with Previous Convictions and for not having insurance on his vehicle; however Crawford was additionally charged with Evading Arrest/Detention. According to the report, Crawford was also issued a citation for Open Container and a written warning for defective equipment.
*A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving in the middle of the road. According to the report, the female driver appeared nervous and stated that she had a driver’s license but that it wasn’t with her and that she was a felon. When the deputy asked if she had anything illegal in the vehicle she stated that there was marijuana and that her husband had it. When asked to remove his shoe, the driver’s husband, Jeremy Allcorn pulled off his shoe and a small pipe containing a small amount of marijuana fell out of the shoe, the report states. Allcorn was arrested on charges of Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone because the stop was in front of Bangs Elementary School.
Thursday, April 19th
*9:08am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Dublin Drive regarding theft. According to the report, the complainant told the officer that her daughter had stolen numerous medications from her.
*10:13am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 4100 block of Glenwood Drive regarding theft. According to the report, the complainant stated that in the last couple of months, a weed eater was stolen from her backyard. A suspect has been named and the complainant wishes to pursue charges.
*10:41am-Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. According to the report, the complainant stated he had loaned a relative a vehicle so that he could travel to and from work and approximately 3 months ago began receiving citations for the vehicle traveling toll roads and not paying the appropriate tolls. When the complainant arranged to meet the relative to retrieve the vehicle, the relative did not show up and is now not answering the complainant’s phone calls. The complainant wishes to pursue charges and the vehicle was listed as stolen.
*3:00pm-Brownwood Police received a third party report of an alleged aggravated sexual assault. The complete details of the incident have not been determined and are under investigation according to Brownwood Police.
*4:18pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Clark Street regarding theft. According to the report, a complainant stated that $10 cash was stolen out of her wallet at the business.
*5:46pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1000 block of Cordell regarding harassment. According to the report, the complainant stated that a known female has been aggressively harassing her. A report for stalking was filed at the complainant’s request.
*6:09pm-A Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a pickup for a traffic violation on Carnegie Street when it suddenly turned into the Brownwood Public Library parking lot. According to the report, the driver got out of the vehicle and began to run away from the deputy. The deputy recognized the driver as 20-year-old Frankie Steven Salazar who ran from him in two previous incidents, the report states. The deputy followed in his vehicle as Salazar ran through yards and around buildings and was captured after two other officers arrived to assist. Salazar was taken into custody inside the Vine Street underpass. An inventory of his pickup revealed a beer can which had been converted into a smoking device which had marijuana residue on it, the report states. He was also found to have no driver’s license and five outstanding warrants. Salazar was arrested on charges of Evading Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While License Invalid.
*7:35pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 4th Street regarding theft. According to the report, the complainant stated someone had stolen his bicycle from the front yard of his residence.
*9:30pm-A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a male subject, identified as 26-year-old Beau Elija Willis of Blanket, having difficulty walking on FM 1467 near County Road 362. According to the report, the deputy stopped and asked him where he was going, to which Willis stated he had been at his girlfriend’s house drinking. Willis explained that the rest of the people at the girlfriend’s house were all too drunk to drive him home but that he was “only a little drunk and could walk home,” the report states The deputy determined that Willis was a danger to himself and others walking home, and arrested Willis for Public Intoxication.
*10:17pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 900 block of Crothers regarding an assault. According to the report, the officer arrived and an investigation revealed that the incident was mutual combat and all participants were separated from each other.
*10:25pm-Brownwood Police responded to a report of fraud at a local gas station and convenience store. According to the report, the owner of the store stated that a female known for cashing fraudulent money orders came into the store to cash a check and he noticed her name on the list of names he keeps for fraudulent money orders. When he did not cash the check, she became nervous, quickly leaving the store and left her driver’s license, the report states. The check had a local business name on it and was written for the amount of $365.00. The owner of the store gave the check to the officer to be processed into evidence.
*Bangs Police arrested 56-year-old Sharon Soules of Bangs for Assault Causes Bodily Injury.
*Brownwood Police arrested 27-year-old Robin Gene Brady of Bangs for Theft of Property $50-$500.
Friday, April 20
*1:48am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 200 block of E. Commerce regarding a city ordinance violation. The officer met with a DPS Trooper who had observed three subjects posting signs on city utility poles. According to the report, the three subjects were advised of the ordinance and ordered to remove the signs they had posted before they were released from the scene.
All arrestees are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
