jacketbasketball_logoThe Howard Payne University women’s basketball drops their third straight in a 79-69 loss to the defending ASC Champs Louisiana College Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Despite 16 first half turnovers, the Lady Jackets went into the half down 32-35 after being down by as much as 15. They shot 37 percent from the floor, and were 6-7 from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Lady Jackets took better care of the ball, but were not able to stop Tillisha Givens in the paint. Givens finished with a game high 23 points.

Katy Sarem pulled the Lady Jackets within one point, 69-70 with 2:30 left in the game when she put up two free throws. 

The Jackets would not score another point after that, turning the ball over twice and missing their last five shots from the field. Louisiana College iced the game making 5 of their last 6 free throws. Final score 69-79 LC.

HPU shot 37 percent from the floor, and 25 percent from behind the arc in the game. LC was 45 percent, and a mere 21 percent from the three-point line.

Three Lady Jackets were in double digits. Brittany Roberson led the way with 16 points. Katy Sarem had 15 and Freshman Tresta Donahoo had 14.

Four hit double digits for LC. Janet Butler had 12, Givens with 23, Natosha Gottlieb had 12 and Kayla Guidry had 18.

The Lady Jackets fall to 2-3 overall on the year, and 0-3 in the American Southwest Conference. LC goes stays undefeated and goes to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the ASC.
The next game is at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 against Mississippi College at the Brownwood Coliseum.
