James Michael “JC” Chansley, age 75, of Brownwood, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at a local nursing home.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
JC was born on July 18, 1944, to Samuel “Sammy” Chansley and Pansy (Payne) Chansley in Dardanelle, Arkansas. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. After the Air Force, he went back to college earning his bachelor’s degree and then went to work for OEHL at Brooks Airforce Base where he retired with 28 years of civil service. He chose a second career later in life when he attended the police academy. James served as a Round Rock Police Officer for 11 years; he retired from the force in 2006.
James married Judy Stanley Chansley on June 21, 1986. The two loved to travel across the county and volunteer where they could. JC enjoyed backpacking, camping, and the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs. He also had a knack for refurbishing old cars in his spare time.
James is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy Chansley of Brownwood; children, Tonya Chansley of San Antonio, Todd Chansley and wife Lynette of San Antonio, Josh Chansley and wife Katryn of Dripping Springs, Tammie Funderburgh and husband Kyle of San Antonio, Wes Timmons and wife Jennifer of Argyle; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandson; his brother, Jackie R. Chansley and wife Kathy of Missouri; and a sister, Elaine Jones of Arkansas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy and Pansy Chansley; 3 brothers, William S. Chansley, Donald L. Chansley, and Bobby L. Chansley; and 1 sister, Virginia Womack.
