The VFW Post 3278 and the VFW Auxiliary donated $1,000 to purchase food on behalf of the VA Clinic for the Good Samaritan Ministries food pantry. This donation serves as part of the Vets Feed Families and Feds Feed Families annual food drives.
This donation is equivalent to 6250 pounds of food, according to Good Samaritan Ministries Assistant Director Heather Thomas. The VA Clinic is involved in a competition with the Feds Feed Families program to see which organization can gather the most food for their local food pantry, explained Margaret Kirby VFW Auxiliary Treasurer and Veterans Programs and Support Chair. The VA Clinic participates in the program and is involved in the contest to raise the most food within the VA Healthcare System in Temple.Good Samaritan Ministries Communications Director Misty Bowers stated that the organization will focus on purchasing as much protein products as they can, such as canned tuna and canned chicken, due to the need for protein to distribute to families in need.
