A family’s home was destroyed by a large fire Tuesday night in the 1700 block of 6th Street.
After 9pm, multiple units from the Brownwood Fire Department responded to the report of the house fire and began battling the blaze. Windy and dry conditions made this fire a challenge for firefighters according to witnesses.
“At one point it looked like the fire was getting out of control and the wind was pushing the flames onto the 6th street trees and power lines, but our firefighters did an excellent job fighting it and containing it,” said witness Michael Uhlig. “We are so thankful these people serve our community in these brave ways.”
Firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots over an hour after the fire began.
The owners of the house said that no one was home when the fire started and no one was injured as a result of the fire. The owners also said that the home and all of their belongings inside were completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the owners said that they did not know what could have caused the blaze.
