Written by Ben Cox – Jonathan Dunlap, recently appointed acting Public Relations officer for the Brownwood Art Association board, spoke to Brownwoodnews.com about the organization’s calendar for the coming month, as well as changes at the Association.
Dunlap alluded to changes on the board of the Art Association that are being made to “increase the the public awareness” of activities and events at the Association.
Between the 4th and 17th of February the Association will host the Salon de Refuse’ for the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. The Salon highlights pieces that did not make the Juried Exhibit, but are still of high quality. The Art Association will be open weekdays from the 4th to 17th during select hours.
In addition to the Salon de Refuse’, the Art Association will continue to host its monthly events, including Muse and Merlot which will be held at the Spirit of Texas Winery in Early on Saturday the 17th at 4 p.m. The change in day of the week this month is due to the Juried Art Exhibit and Salon de Refuse’.
The Brownwood Art Association Photo Group meets every 2nd Thursday at the Associations location on Fisk Avenue. The Photo Group will hold occasionally trips or photo walks for members to practice their art under a set of guidelines set for that event.
The Association also plays host every 3rd Thursday to A.M.P., which stands for Art, Music, People. The open mic night is an open forum for any musician who would like to play in front of an audience. Dunlap encourages budding musicians to come, saying “the only way you get better at…music is to surround yourself (with) people that can help you.”
Dunlap would like to see more local artists take advantage of the Art Association’s activities “since art and music can be more of a hobby than a profession for a lot of people, it’s good because at least once a month they get to set time aside to do something they enjoy doing.”
