VFW Post 3278 members and the Men’s and Ladies Auxiliary observed the 71th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Friday, the beginning of the defeat of Japan in the Pacific War.  Members honored those lost in the attack and awarded the Commemorative Asiatic Pacific Medal to Mr. Roy “Pete” Ferguson.

After the historical account of the attack was read, Ferguson was awarded the medal.  This commemorative medal honors those who served in the Asia-Pacific area of operations during World War II. It bears the Official Seal of the Department of Defense WWII Commemoration Committee.

Ferguson served on the USS Vincennes during WWII. He was discharged from service in August of 1946, credited with 13 months sea duty.

Mr. Ferguson worked for the City of Brownwood Fire Department for 42 years serving as the chief for 27 of those years.

Seaman First Class Ferguson’s other awards include the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
