Early morning burglaries of a home and several vehicles are being investigated by Early Police Officers who ask the public for help in solving these crimes.
According to EPD Chief David Mercer, Officer Michelle Sheedy observed 2 individuals on bicycles acting suspiciously in the 1400 block of Early Blvd. at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Friday, November 21st. As she attempted to stop and investigate further, the individuals fled on foot dropping the bicycles and the items they were carrying, reported Mercer. The suspects fled into wooded pasture areas between several homes.
Officer Sheedy immediately called for assistance at which time a Brown County Sheriff’s unit and several other EPD units were called out including the K9 unit, according to Mercer. Officers recovered several items that the suspects dropped including a backpack full of items and the bicycles which are pictured above. The area was checked for several hours; however, officers were unable to locate the suspects.
While officers were searching the area, an individual at a residence in the 1500 block of Early Blvd called to report a burglary that occurred at their home while the residents were sleeping, reported Mercer. The suspects forced entry to the home, according to police. Officers then conducted an investigation of the crime scene where an undetermined amount of cash and personal items was taken from the personal office in the residence, according to the report.Officers received several calls regarding vehicle burglaries in the area as they were discovered by the owners. Officers recovered several of the items that were reported stolen when the suspects fled and dropped the items, according to Mercer.
The residence in the 1500 block of Early Blvd had surveillance video which captured the suspects in the office, Mercer said. A portion of the video is below for public viewing and Mercer asks that anyone that recognizes the suspects by the body movement is asked to call the Early Police Department. The two bicycles the suspects left when fleeing from Officer Sheedy are pictured above. Anyone who recognizes these bikes and has knowledge of who might have been riding them is asked to contact EPD.
“We are following up on several leads right now but we ask if anyone has any information to please call the Early Police Department 325-646-5322,” said Mercer.
Many crimes are preventable and Mercer reminded citizens to protect their valuables and utilize caution.
“I want to encourage everyone to be sure and lock their homes and vehicles. Burglars target unlocked cars 99% of the time whether it’s a street, parking lot or a home,” warned Early Police Chief David Mercer. “Please call in any suspicious activity so that officer can check it out thoroughly. “
