The team #Early Engineers won the title of 2014 Area 15 Arena Robotics Champions by placing first at the robotics contest this past Saturday in Robert Lee. The competition was hosted by the TCEA, Texas Computer Educators Association, at Robert Lee ISD. The #Early Engineers will represent Area 15 at the State Finals in Houston in April.
Team members include Stephanye Lyon, Taylor Hurt, Asa Welker and Hannah Hull, pictured above left to right. They are coached by Tami Hull and Jennifer McKibben, not pictured.During the competition, #Early Engineers were given a programming mission called “Rubble Trouble.” The mission theme was urban search and rescue. To complete the mission, the team’s robot needed to be pre-programmed to move rubble, set up support pillars for “damaged” structures and deliver FAM (Food and Medicine) to the Safety Zone. The students did not know how the complete set up of the playing field would look like until they arrived at the competition table, according to their coaches.
Their coach, Mrs. Hull stated that she was very proud of the team for their accomplishment of qualifying for state competition in April.
“I am extremely proud of this team. They have been in our robotics program from the beginning, four years,” said Mrs. Hull. “This team is always focused for each practice and works well together.”
#Early Engineers will compete in Houston on April 12th, representing Early at the State Finals.
