The Early City Council Tuesday evening cancelled the general election for May and declared the unopposed of Ben Allcorn, Charles Matlock and B.J. McCullough elected.

The council also approved letting for bids for a fixed base automated meter reading system.  City Administrator Ken Thomas said this item was budgeted for and according to his research could cost around $400,000.  The automated system would include at most two towers that would send more accurate readings to City Hall. Thomas said he thought now that the city was preparing to purchase water from the water district, it would be a good time to switch to a more accurate system.

The city will open bids around April.  Thomas said the bid is for the purchase and installation of the system.

In other business, the council adopted a resolution endorsing certain legislative changes relating to the Sunset Review of the Texas Public Utility Commission and the special purpose review of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and heard reports from Wade Walker, Director of Public Works, and Fire Chief, Travis Eoff.
