Early High School celebrated Longhorn basketball player Cameron Denison as he committed to Howard Payne University.  A mock signing was held on Wednesday, May 29th at EHS in his honor.

Friends, family, coaches and staff members at EHS gathered in the conference room to celebrate Denison’s signing and next chapter in his basketball career.

Denison is the son of Amanda Mitchell and Greg Denison.

Denison played as guard for the Longhorns, leading the team to their first playoff appearance in seven seasons.  He also led the team with 18.7 points, 3.7 steals, and 2.9 assists per game.  He played on the All-Tournament Team, participating in the Dublin Dr. Pepper Tournament and Breckenridge Lions Club Tournament.  Denison has also been selected to play in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Game on June 6th at the Brownwood Coliseum.

According to EHS Basketball Coach Nadir Dalleh, Denison is an all around player and will be an asset to the HPU team.

“He’s an all around player who can score and rebound,” said Dalleh.  “He’s one of those, he’s not a giant but he can play above and he’s going to be an asset for them.”

Dalleh has known Denison since he was two years-old and is excited that he will be playing for HPU, his alma mater.  Dalleh graduated in 1998 from HPU and stated that he plans to attend Denison’s games.

“I’m glad he is going to be close so I can watch him play,” Dalleh said.  “It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch him.”

For Denison it’s an easy choice, in addition to HPU being his mother’s alma mater, he is also receiving the Heart of Texas Scholarship for students from Brown surrounding counties.  This scholarship at HPU provides recipients $56,000 toward tuition over a period of four years.  Denison is undecided on his plan of study as he enters HPU, but is ready to play basketball as a Yellow Jacket.
