David Claude Dupriest, age 92 joined his Lord and Savior and his wife in Heaven on December 02, 2011. He was born at home on the family farm outside of DeLeon, Texas, on August 12, 1919, to Minnie Maude (Lee) Dupriest and John Thomas Dupriest. He was the eldest of five children.
He graduated from DeLeon High School in 1937. When David was 22, his father died and he was left to work the farm. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps (Air Force) on August 10, 1942, and served during World War II. After serving on the Lucian Islands, he returned home and married Doris Gilder on December 29, 1943. (They were married 66 years.) He was then stationed in Iowa Jima, Japan. He was on the crew that serviced the Enola Gay.
After his honorable discharge on December 05, 1945, David was employed by Magnolia, later known as Mobil Oil. He was a loyal employee for 39 years. After retiring on February 01, 1984, he and Doris made their home in Brownwood, Texas.
Mobil made David and his wife quite “mobile”. Their only child was born in Kermit, Texas, he was ordained a deacon in First Baptist Church, McAllen, Texas, and he served as chairman of the pulpit committee in Portland, Texas. They also had friends and fond memories of Victoria and Freer, Texas. In Brownwood, David and Doris both became Gideons and he served as the Adult Sunday School Director for many years at First Baptist Church. He and Clinton Stewart and different men were faithful to visit the hospital and nursing homes every Thursday. David and his wife also served as Volunteer Mission Service Core missionaries to Jerusalem, Israel, in 1985 and 1986.
David and his wife both broke bones last year and found themselves residents of Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood. David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Glenn Dupriest (Navy-WWII), one sister, Fanny Mae Scott, and his wife, Doris.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Dupriest) Mohon and husband Jim, Salado, Texas; one brother, Alfred Dupriest, Stephenville; one sister, Gladys Wright Olney; granddaughter Michelle (Mohon) Cannon and husband Curtis (missionaries to Costa Rica); grandson Brian Mohon and wife, Tiffany of Spring, Texas; great-grandchildren Coleman and Caroline Cannon and Emily and Cydney Mohon, and several nieces and nephews.
Family visitation is at Davis-Morris Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 05, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Brownwood, on Tuesday, December 06, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Round Grove Cemetery, in DeLeon, Texas.
