The sawdust is flying as Brownwood High School Building Trades students are busy constructing a “play house” version of Lindsay’s Drive-In for the Brownwood Reunion Celebration’s Hands on a House competition.
Students Jesus Cruz, Trey Smith, Lorenzo Basio, Esteban Gamez, Demarcus, Jeffrey, Scott Kinzler, and Grace Randolph are juniors and seniors who are enrolled in the building trades class led by Cody Smith. Senior Jose Rodriguez, a former building trades student in 2010, is also volunteering time and skill to help in the project.
Smith explained that the playhouse will be an 8’ x 8’ structure with a 4’x 8’ front porch and a shed style roof.
The event is always a highly anticipated part of the Reunion attracting crowds who check in periodically throughout the 3-day event to see who is competing and who has been eliminated in the struggle to win the playhouse. Participants compete for the custom built playhouse by keeping their hand in contact with it for the duration of the Reunion. Contestants will be provided with limited breaks during the competition. The last person with their hand in contact with the house is declared the winner. Sponsors for the event this year are Coldwell Banker, TexasBank Mortgage and Brownwood High School.
Those interested in competing in the event may register at the Coldwell Banker office at 1900 Austin Avenue in Brownwood or download the entry forms at
