Brown County residents donated hundreds of cards of support for a local soldier in a joint effort by the VFW Post 3278, Ladies’ & Men’s Auxiliary, and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
PFC Andy Putman, United States Army, sustained injuries when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by an IED while in Afghanistan in late April. Putman is now back in the United States recovering.
Joyce Leidig, chairperson for the Ladies’ Auxiliary Military and Family Support Committee, spearheaded the effort to collect cards of support for Putman. According to Leidig, about 500 cards of support were collected in a drop box at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce over the past week.
“We would like to thank everyone in the community for sending their cards of support,” said Leidig. “It is important that we continue to support our military, especially our local servicemen and women and their families.
Leidig said that many businesses, schools, daycare centers, churches, organizations, and individuals helped to make and sign cards for Putman. The cards were mailed this week.
