Brownwood News – Brown County Commissioners were in session Monday morning, July 1.  The meeting last just over 20 minutes.

  • No action was taken on the Burn Ban, meaning, the Burn Ban remains off at this time in Brown County.
  • Sheriff Hill presented the Jail Report which showed 173 inmates in Brown County Jail as of July 1.  Of those, 19 were on contract with other counties who pay $45 per inmate per day to house the inmate in Brown County.
  • After hearing a recommendation from Sheriff Hill, and vote of approval from County Judge, Dr. Paul Lilly, Commissioners authorized an agreement with IWA Technical Services, Inc. and Ira Wiesenfeld & Associates Consulting Engineers concerning the countywide communication system.  The cost to the county is $24,000, which was not budgeted, but as a matter of public safety to improve radio communications in all points of the county, was approved to come out of the county reserve fund.  The City of Brownwood is also joining in on the communication system as are various fire departments in the County to help fund the engineering.  Purchase of equipment will come at a later time.  IWA is strictly an engineering firm and does not sell radio communication equipment.
