Brownwood Lions explode into district play as they defeat the Big Spring Steers 56-21 at Gordon Wood Stadium Friday night. The Lions maintain their unbeaten record as they are now 7-0 on the season.
Brownwood had a total of 407 yards on offense with 248 yards passing and 159 yards on the ground.
The Lions will travel to Snyder next Friday as they look to take down another district 5-3A opponent.
Brownwood scoring drives include:
*Dillon Ellis scored on a 69 yard reception just 15 seconds into the game. The extra point was good to put the first points on the board at 7-0.
*RB Stehl Ratliff carried for 32 yards scoring the next in just the 3rd play of the game. Dillon Ellis gets the extra point once again. Score is now 14-0.
*Big Spring ends their next possession with a short punt to the Lions 40 yard line, which set in motion a drive that ended with a draw play where Levi Perez gets a 35 yard carry for the next touchdown with 3:36 left in the 1st quarter. Ellis again delivers the extra point. The score was then 21-0.
*A couple of minutes into the second quarter, Big Spring has an 82 yard drive in 10 plays for their first touchdown. The PAT attempt is no good, leaving the score at 21-6.
*With a little more than 9 minutes left in the second quarter, QB Graylon Brown connects with WR Jaxon Shipley for a 20 yard pass to the 7 yard line. Chastain carries for 6 yards, leaps into the air and reaches for the end zone for a touchdown. Dillon Ellis gets the extra point bringing the score to 28-6.
*The next Lions possession was 9 plays for 47 yards, ending with a 4 yard carry by Levi Perez into the end zone. The score was then 34-6.
*Only 1:49 left In the first half, Big Springs quarter back carries to encounter pressure by Derek Longoria which allowed Luke Chastain an interception at the Big Springs 23 yard line.
Brown connects with Shipley who gets a 23 yard gain for a touchdown. Ellis gets another extra point bringing the score to 42-6 in the first half.
*Big Spring gets possession in the second half, but is unsuccessful and punts to only the 25 yard line. In a few plays, Perez goes untouched into the end zone for a touchdown and the extra point by Ellis is good, making it 49-6.
*9:56 left to the 3rd quarter and Big Springs gets their second touchdown. During the attempt at the extra point, the ball is dropped during the snap and Big Springs pulls out a two point conversion bringing the score to 56-14.
*Brownwood has a very short possession drive, tries to punt which is blocked by Big Springs at the 10 yard line. A few short plays later, Big Springs gets to the end zone for their third and final touchdown. The extra point is good. The final score was 56-21.
