Brownwood News – The following calls have been responded to in recent days by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

On November 8, 2019, at approximately 9:18 am, Deputy Smoot was advised by dispatch that a convenience store on Belle Plain is switching owners and discovered a missing pack of Lottery tickets.  Deputy Smoot made contact with the owner and Lottery representative and was advised the tickets were more than likely not stolen but weren’t properly inventoried.  All pertinent information was gathered and a report completed.

On Friday, November 8, Lt. Bastardo spoke with a man in regards to his credit/debit card being compromised on two different occasions.  A report was taken from the man.

On Friday, November 8, at 10:50 hours, Deputy Bastardo received a call in regards to burglary of a vehicle.  He spoke with a woman who said her ex-husband had taken her key fob.  A report was taken.

On November 8, at approximately 12:00 pm, Deputy Smoot was advised by dispatch of a theft.  Deputy Smoot spoke with the complainant who advised a firearm was missing from his closet.  Pertinent information was gathered from the complainant, photos were obtained and a burglary report was completed.

On November 8, at approximately 7:30 am, Deputy Smoot responded to the 6900 block of St. Patrick Drive.  This was regarding someone who drove reckless in the area, driving and hitting a fence.  Deputy Smoot observed where someone had conducted donuts in two different places just off the roadway, hit a fence and rain over a residential for sale sign while driving across someone’s yard.  Deputy Smoot made contact with the property owners who all wished to not pursue charges.  Deputy Smoot later received a call from a complainant who got off work and observed the damage and now wished to pursue charges.  A report was completed for further investigation.

On Sunday, November 10, at 12:15 hours, Deputy Bastardo was dispatched to the Law Enforcement Center.  This was in regards to found property.  Deputy Bastardo spoke with a woman who said, while driving on Highway 279 near Rocky Creek Church, she located tools on the south bound lane of traffic.  A report was taken.

 

 

On November 10, Deputy Smoot was dispatched to a call about a runaway juvenile.  Deputy Smoot located the juvenile with an individual who knows the juvenile is a runaway and has been caught with them before in the past.  That individual was arrested for Harboring Runaway Child and the juvenile was returned to their guardian.  Deputy Smoot was later contacted by a witness who located a backpack belonging to the juvenile which contained 1.4 Grams of Methamphetamine.  The juvenile, who is 17, later returned to the Law Enforcement Center to verify the backpack was hers and to make sure no other items were placed in it.  The juvenile was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance and walked to the Brown County Jail and released to staff.

On Sunday, November 10, at 13:25 hours, Deputy Bastardo was dispatched to Reagor Lane in Brownwood.  This was in regards to an assault. Upon arrival, Deputy Bastardo spoke with a man who said his wife had assaulted him and left the residence.  A report was taken.

On Sunday, November 10, at 15:16 hours, Deputy Bastardo was dispatched to a call of theft.  Deputy Bastardo spoke with a woman who named a man who had stolen her property.  A report was taken.

On November 10, Deputy Mathis made contact with a man over an ongoing issue.  The man wanted to report a theft and criminal mischief.  A civil standby was done for the missing items and a report was made for the criminal mischief.

On November 11, Deputy Mathis responded to Highway 183 and County Road 291.  This was for a suspicious vehicle and possible accident at that intersection.  The driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after performing a Standard  Field Sobriety Test.

On Monday, November 11, at 9:18 am, Deputy Burke met with a male complainant in reference to an accident on County Road 199.

On Monday, November 11, a 12:56 pm, Deputy Burke met with a complainant at County Road 153 and County Road 180 in reference to missing livestock.

On November 11, at about 13:27 hours, Deputy Langley arrived at 3rd Street in Blanket.  This was in regards to a theft.  Deputy Langley spoke to a male victim who stated he had let a named suspect borrow his vehicle on Sunday, November 10, but she never returned with the vehicle.

On Monday, November 11, at about 18:25 hours, Deputy Simpson responded to Sherwood Lane.  This was in regards to a stolen firearm.  Deputy Simpson made contact with a man who stated he was missing a .22 caliber rifle.  He advised the last time he had seen the rifle was about a month ago when he had moved it from his dining room into the closet of his bedroom.  He advised no one has permission to have the gun and wishes to pursue charges.  The complainant is 66 years-old so the offense was Theft of Firearm from the Elderly, a third degree felony.

On Tuesday, November 12, at approximately 08:53, Deputy Burke met with a complainant on the Zephyr School Parking Lot, County Road 281.  This was in reference to an unknown vehicle hitting her vehicle at the parking lot.

On November 11, at about 09:39 hours, Deputy Langley spoke with a female victim who stated she had a Hereford bull on her property that did not belong to her.

On November 12, at about 13:42 hours, Deputy Langley arrived at a location at 183 North in Early.  This was in regards to a dog bite.  Deputy Langley spoke to a male victim who stated he was bitten by a dog belonging to a named man.  This was while he was installing internet service at a residence on County Road 333 in Early.

On November 13, at about 00:05 hours, Deputy Simpson along with Early Fire Department, responded to US Highway 377 in regards to a fire.  Upon arriving on scene, it was discovered the fire was located on the PUMPCO Yard.  Entry was made onto the property.  Fire units proceeded to fight the fire, which was a large pile of cross ties that were stacked on the back of the property.  Brownwood Fire Marshal, Buddy Preston, was called to the scene.  Contact was made with a company.  A report was made.
