LeonaJerdenJuly2015The Brownwood Regional Medical Center Volunteers, during their August 2015 Executive Board Meeting, honored Leona Jerden as the July 2015 BRMC Volunteer of the Month.  Leona has been a BRMC Volunteer since February 2000.

She currently serves as the parliamentarian for the BRMC Volunteer organization.  Leona also served as the BRMC Volunteer president during the 2014 – 2015 volunteer year.  She also serves as the chairperson of the tray favor committee, having served in this position since 2002. Her tray favor creations, which are distributed to patients at BRMC on holidays throughout each year, have won first and second place awards from the Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers Organization (TAHV) at that organization’s annual state conventions. Most recently she organized a BRMC fund raising project for the Warrior and Family Support Center located in San Antonio, Texas at Fort Sam Houston.  Her leadership and efforts raised $300 for that Wounded Warrior center.  Leona also volunteers at the information desk at BRMC.

When announcing Leona’s selection as the July 2015 BRMC Volunteer of the Month at the executive board meeting, current BRMC Volunteers president JoAnn Goodwin thanked Leona for her many contribution to the BRMC Volunteer organization. Leona has over 8600 hours of volunteer service at BRMC.

The Volunteer of the Month award is awarded by the BRMC Volunteers each month during the year.  Recipients of the award receive recognition and lunch at the executive board meeting held in the month following the month for which they are selected.  Each BRMC Volunteer of the Month recipient is recognized with a framed Volunteer of the Month certificate, a gift card for a dinner at a local restaurant, and a carrying bag emblazoned with a large heart containing the statement “A Work of Heart.” The carrying bag contains items that celebrate the Texas Association of Hospital Volunteers motto for 2015 – 2016 “Remember those who cannot Remember; Knowledge empowers caregivers.”  This motto emphasizes the need to improve everyone’s knowledge of the disease “Alzheimer’s.”

The BRMC Volunteers are always excited to meet area individuals who are interested in becoming a volunteer and are actively soliciting new members. Opportunities for volunteering are available in 8 service areas which include the information desk, intensive care unit waiting, emergency room waiting, day surgery waiting, surgery waiting, the gift shop, the book cart, and the tray favors committee.

For those interested in volunteering minimum of 6 to 8 hours per month, BRMC volunteering is something to consider.
