The Bangs Police Department is continuing to investigate a two vehicle accident in Bangs Sunday morning. Officials state that during a citywide blackout after storms the night before, the driver of a Corvette and two occupants of a GMC pickup were lucky to be alive after a collision of the two vehicles occurred early Sunday morning on E. Hall Street (US Hwy 67W)in Bangs.
According to Bangs Chief of Police Troy Gruesendorf, witnesses to the accident reported the Corvette was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when it appeared to “drift” into the lane where the pickup was traveling at about 30mph and where the collision occurred. The Corvette hit the rear of the pickup, which witnesses stated “stood up on its nose at a vertical angle” and the metal tool box on the bed of the truck was catapulted approximately two and a half blocks to the intersection of 4th Street, explained Gruesendorf.
The driver of the Corvette along with the occupants of the pickup survived the accident and were released from the hospital the same day as the wreck, according to Gruesendorf.“God had his hand in this,” stated Gruesendorf. “All three basically walked away from this accident and were released from the hospital the same day.”
According to Gruesendorf, the frame of the pickup was twisted from the impact and the Corvette was not recognizable.
The cause of the accident was not determined as of Tuesday afternoon, Gruesendorf stated. The driver of the Corvette submitted to a blood draw which was sent to the DPS crime lab in Abilene for analysis. An investigation is pending the results of the blood sample.
