StateFireMarshalLogoThe City of Brownwood Office of Emergency Management and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will host the Ammonium Nitrate Forum on Thursday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Depot on Adams Street in Brownwood.

The Ammonium Nitrate Forum was created as a direct result of the West, TX explosion. The Fire Marshal was directed to present this forum in all counties in Texas which have a facility that stores 10,000 lbs or more of Ammonium Nitrate, according to Brownwood Fire Chief Del Albright.  He explained that this forum contains lessons learned from the West incident, storage requirements, and best practices to be used responding to an incident involving Ammonium Nitrate for all emergency responders. It was also developed to provide vital information to our elected officials and local industry said Albright.

Joining the hosts will be representatives from the Texas Division of Emergency Management, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Office of the State Chemist, and Texas A&M Engineering and Extension Service. The purpose of the meeting is to review best practices for storage of AN with facility management, and response techniques and strategies of first responders to these type of incidents.  These Texas agencies want to see what assistance local officials need to help prevent an AN incident from impacting their community.

Those interested in the subject matter and those who would benefit from the information are encouraged to attend.
