Zak Webb was announced as the winner of the Brownwood’s Got Talent competition on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the contest during the Brownwood Reunion Celebration. Webb received 2 VIP passes to the concert on Saturday night and opened for Cory Morrow.
On Saturday afternoon, all twelve of the contest finalists performed two songs of their choice for their last performance for the judges and audience. The results were decided by 50% online voting by the public, and the other 50% by the judges’ panel on Saturday.
Heather Green sang two songs a capella taking 2nd place, and Jayslin King sang and played guitar and was awarded 3rd place. Green and King each received trophies.
After Webb was announced the winner, he expressed his appreciation for his family and the people that voted for him.
“This is a part of my dream, the beginning of my dream, “stated Webb.
Webb performed two original songs. Webb’s second song was about his ill father and what he would tell his younger sister during this hard time. The emotional song brought some audience members to tears.
“One of my main inspirations is my father. My mother was a singer, my father was a singer, it has just pushed me,” said Webb. “I love performing in front of my parents; they taught me everything that I know.”
Both songs were written by Webb, with music composed by his roommate. Together they have formed the group Two Young Men Entertaining, or TYME. They are planning to release a CD in the near future.
“On this CD I am trying to put out, some of it is about a girl, and a lot of it is inspirational,” said Webb. “I want kids to be able to listen to it, my music is very clean. It’s very catchy.”
