The Brown County Youth Fair will be held the second weekend of January, and Larry Schwartz has once again partnered with the youth fair, Charlie and Kirby Cabler and Good Samaritan Ministries to help not only the youth of Brown County but to provide food to those less fortunate as well.
Schwartz is collecting donations through January 6 in order to purchase hogs from the sale, feed them for several weeks, and then have them processed and donated as ground pork to the Good Samaritan Ministries’ food pantry.
“It really serves two purposes,” said Angelia Bostick, executive director of GSM. “It helps the youth have an avenue to sell their hog and it provides food to families in Brown County who are living in poverty.”
Last year, Schwartz’ efforts brought in 2,896 pounds of ground pork to the freezers of GSM and purchased 24 hogs from area youth. Kirby and Charlie Cabler of Cabler Construction also helped Schwartz with the project.
Schwartz said it’s a win-win program.
“It benefits the youth fair, the kids in the county and the people served by Good Samaritan Ministries,” he said.
