Howard Payne University’s Young Scholars and Summer Scholars programs are underway this week with 77 children participating, the largest group in the history of the annual programs.

On Tuesday, the area children were visited by the Air Evac Lifeteam for a demonstration featuring the team’s helicopter.

“We are so appreciative of the Air Evac Lifeteam for sharing their time and resources with us to help educate these children,” said Dr. Julie Welker, professor of communication at HPU.

The Young Scholars and Summer Scholars programs are designed to provide intense, fun and academically stimulating summer camp programming for children entering grades 1-6. The goal is to challenge school-age children academically as well as expose them to the HPU campus and academic environment

The programs run daily through Friday of this week, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on HPU’s Daniel Baker College campus.
