Brownwood Police are investigating the death of an infant child which occurred on December 13, 2015 in Brownwood. The following information was released by Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller Friday afternoon.
On Sunday, December 13, 2015, officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center regarding a report of a female infant not breathing. Prior to the police being notified, the infant was driven to the emergency room by family members who reported that they discovered her not breathing while at home. Attempts to revive the infant were unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased at approximately 1612hrs (4:12 PM). The infant was then transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office in Fort Worth for an autopsy.An investigation was commenced, involving investigators of the Brownwood Police Department, Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers, and the State of Texas Child Protective Services. On Thursday, January 21, 2016, the investigation was presented to the Brown County Grand Jury who returned an indictment against the infant’s father, 18-year-old Jekarius Lee Bryant, for the offense of Capital Murder. Mr. Bryant was arrested on Friday, January 22, 2016 without incident and booked into the Brown County Jail with a bond set at $500,000.
“This is a tragic event which has heavily impacted the family, investigators and medical personnel. Our prayers and thoughts are extended to everyone involved,” Fuller stated.
