Wynogene “Genie “ Taylor Phillips, age 89 of San Saba, Texas passed away in Llano, Texas on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Genie was born on December 29, 1922 to Aurthur Prentice Taylor and Willie Effie Harrell and was a life-long resident of San Saba. Genie loved her church and was a long time member of First Baptist Church of San Saba where she served as a volunteer. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Genie worked as a sales person at Sterner’s Dry Goods, Everett’s Pharmacy, and as a bookkeeper for her son Bo at the Mobil Station in San Saba for many years. Genie and Luther Phillips were married sixty four years prior to his death in 2006. During their years together, Genie was Luther’s “right hand” during their pecan harvests. Genie was a people person who loved to be on the go and enjoyed people wherever she went.
Genie is survived by: her two sons, Michael Nelson Phillips and wife, Laurel of Richmond, Texas, and Samuel Bo Phillips of San Saba; one daughter, Terry Alisa Cox and husband, David of San Saba; Grandchildren, Michael Nelson Phillips, Jr., Sammi Jo Lewis, Casey Ray Lewis, Kelli Elizabeth Cox, David Luke Cox, and Micah Alisa Cox. Also left behind to cherish her memory are: three great- grandchildren; her sister, Pat Coleman and husband, Bobby of Farmington, New Mexico; and a brother in law, R. W. Phillips and wife, Diane of Goldthwaite, Texas. Preceding Genie in death were her parents, her husband Luther, her brother Woodson Harrell, her sister Helen Harrell, and a grandson Michael Stephen Phillips.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday April 22, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of San Saba, with Brother Sam Crosby officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church. Interment will follow at Neal Cemetery at Spring Creek.
