LearningGardenWoodlandKindergarten students at Woodland Heights Elementary planted flowers in honor of one of their teachers, Mrs. Kristi Wilson, who will be retiring after 39 years with Brownwood ISD.

The flowers were planted in the new Learning Garden, which is nearing completion in front of the Woodland Heights campus.  Mrs. Wilson had the original idea to build a butterfly garden with picnic tables in front of the school.  Her idea grew into the Learning Garden Project, which Woodland Heights received a grant from Goody’s Department Store in order to build.

Mrs. Wilson and her teaching assistant, Mrs. Mary Zapata (also retiring this year), planted the first two flowers.  All 150 kindergarten students had the opportunity to say kind words about Mrs. Wilson, and then each child planted a flower.

The flowers in the Learning Garden are a beautiful tribute to Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Zapata for their years of dedication.  The garden itself, will be named the Margie Michael Learning Garden, after a long time Pre-K teacher who passed away last year.
