Woodland Heights Elementary students, parents and staff completed a charitable program on Saturday that will give warmth to many needy people in Brown County.
With the help of Big Country Ford in Brownwood, donations were taken Saturday in a drive-through manner, as children and adults helped greet cars and take donations of gloves, scarves, socks and canned goods to help programs at Good Samaritan Ministries and New Beginnings with the needs of the food bank and shelter. There were approximately 50 students at the event; however, many more students and staff had worked to develop the project and collect donations at school before the day of the event.
“Students collected and sorted all of the donations which included many canned goods and an assortment of non-perishables, socks of all sizes, toboggans, blankets, scarves and many clothing items,” said event sponsor and Woodland Heights Physical Education Teacher Karey Morelock.
After the event Saturday, the donations were delivered.
“This was a most generous donation that will certainly go far in helping those in need in our county,” said Misty Bowers of Good Samaritan Ministries.
Morelock was pleased at the turn out of both students and donors for the event.
“I’m so proud of our students for their leadership in developing and promoting our project,” said Morelock who explained collections of donations will continue through this week at Woodland Heights Elementary for those who were unable to make it to the event.
