Brownwood ISD students at Woodland Heights Elementary School received a visit from Ingram Enterprises during Safety Week.

Jeff Roberts, Vice President and General Manager of the local Ingram plant, and two of his employees brought a concrete mixer truck to show to the third grade class while teaching them work safety tips that may also help to keep them safe at home, at school and on the playground.

Roberts and staff reviewed information about their company and concrete, speaking about safety as it applies to the mixer truck.  They also gave some fun facts about the weight of a full concrete mixer truck and how fast they can travel.

Justin and Mr. Cowan, Ingram employees spoke about the 3 Points of Contact when climbing and pinch points, demonstrating how to use them.  These points help drivers stay safe while climbing in and out of trucks and equipment, but also apply to staying safe on the playground.  Many of the safety tips the Ingram staff presented helped the students to understand that safety must always come first, regardless if you’re on the playground or driving a truck.

Some safety tips the students volunteered during the safety talk included “Stay out of the street, follow the rules, and don’t horseplay.”

Mr. Cowan was a great safety role model for the students to meet, having worked at Ingram for 20 years with no accidents.
