On Monday, May 20th, Woodland Heights Elementary announced the winners of their first ever second-grade science fair.  Projects were on display in the digital media center starting on Tuesday, May 14th and were visible throughout the week. “They did the projects completely at home,” said Tamara Glass, a second grade teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary.  “They were all so excited and proud of the work they did.”

The fair had 45 student participants, and awards were given for first through fifth place.  The students that won awards, and their respective science fair project titles are as follows:

1st Place – Brooke Minchey – “How does bacteria grow?”

2nd Place –  Christoffer Rodriguez and Celia Rodriguez – “Will the amount of water in a balloon affect when it will break?”

3rd Place – Caleb Nelson – “How does the amount of air in a soccer ball affect how far it can be kicked?”

4th Place – Kassidy Wooten – “Do sugar crystals grow faster in tap or distilled water?”

5th Place (fan-favorite) – Luke Gray – “Which soda & mentos cause the biggest explosion?”
