Brownwood News – On Tuesday, November 5th, Amelia Denise Thompson turned herself into the Brown County Jail on charges of Injury to a child. The charges were filed by Early Police Department following an accident on August 8th of this year where Thompson was driving a 1999 Mercury 4 door on CC Woodson Road. According to Early Police, she ran off the road into a shallow creek striking a tree. The 5-year-old passenger, Thompson’s granddaughter, was not restrained in the vehicle and received injuries to her face and head.
According to Early Police, Thompson grabbed the 5-year-old from the vehicle, jumped into the vehicle of a passing motorist who stopped to help. The motorist dropped Thompson and the 5-year-old at the Tractor supply parking lot where Thompson and the 5-year-old got into another vehicle and fled the area. The child was later taken to the Emergency Room where the 5-year-old was later transported to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
Thompson was charged with leaving the scene of an accident along with the Injury to Child charges with serious bodily injury, a 2nd degree felony. Her bond was set at $20,000.
Brown County Jail records indicate Thompson has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1997. She is 51 years of age.
