WitnessOnStageThe play Witness, under the direction of Terri Tidwell, will be performed at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex on Tuesday, April 19th for the students at the facility.

Based on the book by Debbie Webb and Mary Owen, Witness is a stage adaptation of the story of Jesus’ ministry, death, resurrection and ascension as told from Mary Magdalene’s point of view.  Mrs. Tidwell contacted the facility in January to begin plans to have the play performed on site.

Mrs. Tidwell, a former Texas Youth Commission teacher, says that when she pictures Mary Magdalene, she doesn’t see an obscure prostitute who’s been dead 2000 years; instead, she sees the young women of today, the very ones she has taught.

She believes that today’s young women have faced so many struggles looking for love and acceptance and have come up empty-handed, just as Mary did; however, meeting Jesus changed everything for Mary.  Mrs. Tidwell believes meeting Him can likewise bring hope and healing to a whole generation of lost young people today.

The cast and crew consist of a collaboration of people across Brown County with various degrees of stage experience.
