Winnie Mary Catherine (Holder) Stokes went to be with her heavenly Father early Thursday morning.

Winnie was born July 12, 1926 in Sylvester, TX to William J and Pearl Ann (Shields) Holder. She grew up in Coleman County and attended school in Santa Anna.

Winnie married Odus Fred Stokes in Brownwood, TX Jun 13, 1943. They celebrated their seventieth anniversary in 2013.

Winnie worked at various jobs before becoming an LVN at the age of 52. She worked at Brownwood Regional Medical Center for ten years. Although she loved serving others as a nurse, her primary focus was her family. Winnie was always involved in her children’s activities and everyone was welcome into her home. As a longtime member of Belle Plain Baptist Church, Winnie guided many young people in their journey to Christ. She attended Avenue D Baptist Church in her later years.

Winnie is preceded in death by her mother and father, two brothers and a sister and her dearly loved husband. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Betty Stokes and William White of Garland, Brenda Stokes and Willie Ezzell of Rising Star, Fred and Brandi Stokes of Brownwood. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Wesley White of San Angelo, Mechelle Bill and husband Cody of Decautur, Will Ezzell and wife Heather of Parker, AZ, Courtney Bridges and husband Glenn of Rising Star and Brenae Leverton, Tiffani Rader, Felicity Stokes of Brownwood. Her great-grandchildren: Gatlin Bill of Lubbock, Sarah Lockenour and husband Brandon of Stephenville, Garrett Bill currently serving in the US Army, Avery Bill of Decatur, Payton White of San Angelo, Cole and Lane Bridges of Rising Star, Aayden and Raelynn Camden of Brownwood, Holli Ezzell of Parker AZ, and great-great grandson Paxton Lockenour of Stephenville. There are many other family members and friends who will continue to cherish their memories of her.

Services will be held Sunday at 2:30 PM at Heartland Funeral Home with interment to follow at Whon Cemetery.
