This Sunday evening, March 27th, the Winds of Triumph from Howard Payne University will be in concert at Brownwood’s First Baptist Church. The concert, which begins at 6:00 PM in the church’s sanctuary, is free and open to the public
Winds of Triumph, HPU’s Instrumental Church Ensemble, has had a banner year of travel. November 12, Winds of Triumph traveled to San Antonio to play for the Spurs Faith & Family Night Game against the Philadelphia 76ers. After playing for thousands of fans Saturday night, Wind of Triumph performed Sunday Morning at First Baptist Church, New Braunfels.
January 27, Winds of Triumph traveled to Dallas to perform at the Dallas Maverick’s game against the Houston Rockets. Winds of Triumph performed at the ATT Plaza of the American Airlines Center and then performed “My Redeemer Lives!” on the floor of the arena for the pregame show. On January 28, Winds of Triumph performed for Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth and taped a YouTube Video at First Baptist Church Duncanville. On Saturday, January 29, Winds traveled on to Oklahoma City, where they performed Sunday morning at First Baptist Church, Norman, Oklahoma. Following a 20-minute Special Music Concert at FBC Norman, the pastor began his sermon complimenting Wind of Triumph with a quote from St. Francis of Assisi: “Speak of the Gospels always; if necessary use words. Winds of Triumph perfectly gave us the gospels in music alone.”
February 26, Winds of Triumph completed the tour of all three Texas NBA teams with an invitation to perform for the Houston Rockets in their game against the New Jersey Nets. Winds of Triumph played their praise music and hymns to hundreds of fans on the concourse of Houston’s Toyota Center.
They traveled on to Conroe, Texas later that night, and performed at First Baptist Church of Conroe on Sunday morning. The response to their musical offering was so overwhelming that the pastor asked the congregation to come forward and lay hands on the students and pray for them.
Winds of Triumph Director, Stephen Goacher, Professor of Music, said: “This year has been a special blessing to us. The students were faithful in their preparation beginning in August before we had any idea what the year would bring. God’s eyes are constantly searching the earth to find those preparing to serve him. We are humble that He found us faithful and could send us.”
In 2006, Winds of Triumph traveled to Monclova, Mexico, where they performed to thousands of people in the City Plazas and City Parks at the invitation of the Primera Iglesia Baptista, and the Government of Monclova. The students also presented a music education clinic at University of Coahilua. In 2009, Winds of Triumph toured Colorado and performed at Christian Academies in Colorado Springs and Harvest Baptist Church in Boulder.
