Willie Mae Rider, 88, of Early, died Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Willie Mae Burton on December 12, 1927, near Burkett to Isaac Omer Burton and Zula Adelaine Porter Burton. She grew up in the Burkett area and graduated from Burkett High School. On June 18, 1945, she married Emery Odell Rider in Coleman. She worked with Emery at his mechanic shop. She also worked at Shipman’s and Coleman County State Bank. Most importantly, Mrs. Rider was a homemaker for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While living in Coleman, she was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include two children, Gary and Theresa Rider of Amarillo and Janice and Brent Bush, of Early; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Trena Rider of Bushland, Brent and Deborah Rider of Bronte, Sonia and Scott Richardson of Amarillo, Erika and Dan Gerecke of Lubbock, Brad and Hailie Hubbard of Brownwood, Todd and Anita Hubbard of Southlake, Ryan and Jessica Hubbard of Austin; adopted grandson, Armon Nieni of Dallas; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Besides her parents, Mrs. Rider was preceded in death by her husband, Emery, on July 11, 2016 and five brothers and sisters, Thelma Lee Hymin, Marvin Burton, Freddie Burton, Arnold Burton and an infant brother.
Visitation with the family will be an hour before the service on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
