Sis. Rushing was called away to Glory on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She was a Christian woman of faith who loved her family. She was devoted…not to just one church but to the growth and development of the body of Christ. She was born in Dublin, Georgia on August 13th, 1929. Her birth date was changed because the number thirteen was thought to be unlucky! The oldest of four siblings, although she was the oldest, she was blessed to live the longest of all her siblings.

In her long life she was able to live in places like New York, Georgia and Florida. She was first married to Samuel Griffin and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Irene. She later met and married Bro. Rushing and out of almost 35 years of marriage they had two children, Debra Ann and Coley, Jr. After the birth of their youngest child, Sis. Rushing and her husband traveled around the southeast ministering and preaching. Later the Lord led them to establish a church in Waco, Texas that they co-pastored together for many years. Sis Rushing’s life was dedicated to the work of the ministry and taking care of her family and she gave one hundred percent to both! She was not afraid to step out and do something new. She studied to be a tax prep and also took in washing and ironing. She even did a little carpentry on the side including building the front porch to the home she lived in which she did all by herself except for the roof which she talked her husband into finishing for her! She was an outspoken woman who never hesitated to let you know what she was thinking or what was on her mind! We love her and she will be missed!

She is survived by four children, Elizabeth Fields, Irene Griffin, Debra Ann Rushing, and Coley Rushing, Jr. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ketish Mills, Marlaina Fields, Matthew Fields, Andrew Fields, Luchana Brarenton, Tamika Erika Reed, Sidney Reed, Jr. and Kinsey Ruth Rushing; two step grandchildren, Hanna R. Causey and Dakotah Kennard and a number of great grandchildren.

Services for Sis. Rushing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Greater Faith Church with Bishop Aaron Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday evening at the funeral home. Netherton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Willie Mae Rushing.
