KirkWilliamWilliam Lynn Kirk passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the age of 98 with family by his bedside. Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 03, 2012 at Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Friday evening at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Glynn Kirk was born in Gorman Texas on December 18, 1913 and was the son of Robert Lee and Ninnie David Kirk. He was married to Elva Jane Shell on June 06, 1941 in Gorman, Texas. He and Elva had two children, Larry Kirk and Ann Smith and two grandchildren, Ian Kirk and Allison Abdias. He grew up in Gorman and had seven brothers and one sister. He graduated from Gorman High School. During high school he cleaned the local bank, Gorman First National. Two weeks after graduation in 1931 he went to work full time for the bank moving up through the ranks until he became the President. He became President of the Citizens National Bank in Brownwood where he and his family relocated in 1964. He worked in banking for fifty years.

Glynn was not drafted in to military service in 1941 because the Gorman bank required his services to process purchase of all the peanut drafts produced west of the Mississippi River by the United States. These peanuts had to be sold to the government because their glycerine was used in the manufacture of nitroglycerine for the war effort.

After moving to Brownwood in 1964, Glynn and Elva joined the First United Methodist Church. Both were very active members serving on numerous committees with Elva playing the piano or organ when needed. Glynn was active in the community serving as the President of the Brownwood Industrial Park, Director of the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Brownwood Lions Club.

Glynn will be remembered for his love of his family, his love of being outdoors, working on his ranch, playing golf and bridge, and his tenaciousness that kept his exercising until he was 97.

Glynn’s family is grateful to the many helping hands at Oakridge Manor and Solaris Hospice Care for their kindness and care of Glynn while he was a resident.

Glynn is survived by his two children, Larry and his wife Fran of Odessa and Ann and her husband Keith of Brownwood; two grandchildren, Ian Kirk of Odessa and Allison Abdias of Houston; 4 sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 2500 11th Street in Brownwood or to Good Samaritan Ministries, 305 Clark St. Brownwood. Condolences may be left for the family at
