Funeral for Wiley Sidney Strickland, 91, of Early will be at 1p.m., Monday, February 14, 2011 at Davis Morris Funeral home, Brownwood, Texas with Rev. Eddie Ailshie officiating. Burial will be in Blanket Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday February 13 at Davis Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Strickland died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Brownwood Hospital.
He was born August 15, 1919, in Comanche County between DeLeon and Desdemona, and lived in Early for the past 29 years. He was an accountant for Gulf Oil Co. until he retired in 1977. He was married to Selma Cornelius Henry on June 23, 1967 in Odessa, Texas.
Survivors include one daughter and son in law Carol and Wes Pyfer of Irving, TX; daughter, Virginia Hill of Ojai, California; one son Harley and wife Bobbie Henry of High Point, N.C.; nephew, Richard G. Finley and wife Sonja of Houston; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Strickland; his parents, Jackson Bedie and Alice Isadora Strickland; brothers, John Strickland and his wife Garnet, George A. Strickland and his wife Neva, Mose Strickland and his wife Stella, Howard Strickland and his wife Opal, and Mark Strickland; sisters, Annie Parsons, Esther Finley, Ora Reasoner and brother in law Marion Reasoner.
