The time for all the good flavor of the season has arrived! Most of us can remember that tart, yet sweet, mouth watering taste of homemade jams and jellies.
Dozens of cars have been seen parked off the roadway, and down dusty county roads, with folks (buckets, sacks, and baskets in hand) gathering the hard-to-get-at jewels. The drought last year, along with the early freeze factor, took a toll on just about everything that grows, which makes this year’s “crop” especially welcome.
Jim Walker is pictured above gathering the hard to get at fruit along a county road. The other photos below show the progress from “picking”– to “mmm-mmm, delicious”!
Mr. Walker stated “The ‘plum butter’ we made this week is the best I’ve ever tasted – kept me up at night thinking about how good it was gonna be on my buttered biscuit”.
All the folks that “put up” canned fruit and vegetables know the effort that goes into preparing such delights. Look for some of these goodies at the fair this year.
