Zephyr High School celebrated the commitment of one of their senior football players to Howard Payne University on Monday afternoon.
A mock signing was enjoyed by Layne Wiedl and his family in the library of ZHS.During his high school sports career, Wiedl enjoyed both football and track and will continue with his sports career as a slot receiver at Howard Payne University.
Wiedl is the son of Jeff and Robin Barron of Zephyr and has attended Zephyr ISD since the third grade. He was an All-State Special Team honoree his junior year and was second team All-Region as a corner back.
He plans to pursue a degree in Graphic Design with a fine arts minor. Wiedl stated that he also considered schools such as Angelo State and Tarleton but stated HPU was the best school he had visited for this degree program.
