IMG_6006A Christmas present that no one was expecting came in the form of snow accumulation in the Brownwood area on Christmas Eve.

Snow fell until mid-afternoon on Thursday with well over an inch of accumulation in many areas.

Law enforcement is discouraging travel overnight as the slush on roadways is expected to become icy.  Parts north of Brownwood are very treacherous with many roadways are closed due to snow and ice.

For those staying home, a winter wonderland, snowmen, and snowball fights were the order of the day.

Although the sun came out for a short time Thursday afternoon, much of the snow will still be in yards in the morning giving central Texas a rare white Christmas treat.

Brownwood News took a few photos of the snow event.  Click the slide show below for the photos.

Merry Christmas and stay safe!
