GuthrieFuneral services for Wendell Guthrie, 84, of Early will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 8, 2014, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Hall officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cross Cut Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday evening, 6-8 P.M.  Wendell departed this life on Wednesday,   November 5, 2014, at his home in Early with his wife, June, at his side.

After graduating from Grosvenor High School in 1948 Wendell served in the army and was stationed in Korea and Japan.  After completing his military service he was employed by Texaco until his retirement.

Wendell and June were married October 9, 1999.  They enjoyed travelling to Blue Grass festivals and planting lush vegetable gardens which they shared with friends and family.  They especially loved decorating their home for the holidays, and the Christmas decorations were enjoyed by many.  Wendell was a member of the Bangs Church of Christ.

Wendell was born in Brown County on February 15, 1920, to Eliza and Oscar Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hershell and Hubert.

Wendell is survived by his wife, June, a son, Wendell Guthrie, Jr. of Odessa, a daughter, Diane Guthrie of Odessa, two step daughters, Judy Ford of Austin and Jan Gleaton of Early, numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and step grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bangs Church of Christ Camp Fund.
