Brownwood Police were kept busy over the weekend responding to calls related to bad choices and alcohol consumption. 

*In the 900 block of 11th Street, police were dispatched in regards to a fight at around 3:30am Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, an officer told one male subject at the residence to come to him to provide ID.  This man, identified as 26-year-old Desi Lujan, was on the porch and did not follow the request, but instead went back into the residence according to the report.  Believing he might escape out the back door, another officer ran around the side of the house to the back where the suspect did attempt to exit the report states.  Upon seeing the second officer, Lujan went back into the house.   Lujan was caught inside the home and arrested for evading arrest/detention, and then the officers were able to then continue investigating the call.

23-year-old Colbey Seiley of Brownwood and 25-year-old Christopher Moore of Goldthwaite were in the front yard of the residence when officers arrived.  The police report states that both men showed signs of being intoxicated and placed under for Public Intoxication.  A female also at this location was identified as 29-year-old Nancy McKissack of Brookesmith and was found to have an outstanding warrant for which she too was arrested.

In other unrelated incidences:

*Saturday at 1:33 am, police responded to a vehicle accident in the 1100 block of Avenue D.  A Chevy Camaro was noted to be up against a utility pole when officers arrived.  Police reports state that 20-year-old Billy Ray Don Allen admitted drinking a couple of beers at a friend’s,  then stated he didn’t think he was intoxicated, but just shook up.  After failing standard field sobriety tests and having breath samples of 0.158 and 0.157, he was booked into the Brown County Jail on the charge of Driving While Intoxicated.

* Saturday, shortly after midnight, Brownwood Police were called to the 2300 block of Avenue E regarding a loud noise complaint.  As the responding officer approached he could feel the bass of the stereo of a pick-up from 50 yards away the police report states.

Three men, 17-year-old Joe Ortega, and two 18-year-old males were sitting in the truck that was parked in the driveway of the residence.  They were informed that the noise was in violation of a city code.  They agreed to turn the music down.   A scent of marijuana was detected by the officer, who after gaining consent, searched their vehicle and persons.   None was found; however, a beer can with condensation on it was sitting in the console of the vehicle within all three occupants’ reach.   

As the officer spoke to the men, another male, later identified as 20-year-old Daniel Ortega, opened the front door of the residence and stated, “Oh…the cops are out there.”  In his hand was a beer.  He went back inside the home, and then came back out, without the beer, but with several other minors.  19-year-old Larry Carter was identified along with four other underage offenders according to the police report.

Through the front door, a beer pong game could be seen.  The officer went inside the house to see if there were any other minors present.  He did not locate any other minors, but did note that all of the glasses on the table contained beer the report states. 

Continuing his search of the vehicle, the officer then found a marijuana pipe stuffed between the driver’s seat and the console the report states.  Joe Ortega claimed ownership of the pipe and was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia according to the report. 

Larry Carter, the tenant of the house, was placed under arrest for making alcohol available to minors.  Citations were given to 4 minors and Carter for minor in possession of alcohol.   

*In another unrelated incident, the police responded to an accident around the intersection of 4th Street and Hawkins.  The victim and the passenger with her gave the officer an account of what happened.  She had attempted to turn left into her driveway when a vehicle struck her the report states. 

The offending driver and his vehicle, a Mazda MX-6, were still in the roadway.  The driver was identified as 35-year old Jose Estrada.   According to the report an alcohol smell was present on Estrada’s person and when asked how many drinks he consumed before the accident, he answered, “several”.  With bloodshot and glassy eyes, Estrada attempted standard field sobriety tests, which he failed as noted in the report.   Estrada was then arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

The report also noted that earlier in the evening dispatch had received a call regarding a wreckless driver in a car that matched Estrada’s Mazda.
