Brownwood ISD announces that the Little Lion Olympics events scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, at Gordon Wood Stadium have been cancelled due to weather and have been rescheduled for Friday, May 20th.
This 5th year of the annual multi-day event began on Tuesday with an opening ceremony and several other events for all 3rd graders at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Each year approximately 750 students are given an opportunity to participate in a junior track meet which helps prepare them for their athletic career, according to organizers. The track meet is centered on the “Olympics” and features events such as the javelin throw, long jump, the strong man tug-of-war, and various running events including relays.
The opening ceremony each year begins with each team carrying their own originally designed flag and includes many of the Olympic Opening Ceremony traditions.
